Prepare Your Children to Swim

I just saw this post on pinterest and I love it! After watching all kinds families come to the pool as a lifeguard and teaching children who are scared of the water I have seen how these tips can really help children to become comfortable in the water. Take a look to see what you can apply to your own families! Good luck!

Lesson Registration Details

Location: The Pech family has offered to let me rent their backyard pool to accommodate my lessons. Their home is just a few streets away from last year’s location, 4657 S. Crestfield Dr. (Google Maps Location).

Sessions: There will be four sessions throughout the summer. Lessons will be offered 3 days a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) for two weeks (6 lessons) for ½ hour each lesson.

Session One: June 4th-June15th
Session Two: June 18th-June 29thth
Session Three: July 23rd-August 3rd
Session Four: August 6th-August 17th

4:00 level 4
4:30 level 3
5:00 level 2
5:30 level 1

Levels: Please sign your children up by your best estimate of their age, and swimming skill level. For those of you who participated in lessons last summer, I would ask that you consider your child’s skill at the end of the summer but also consider the lack of practice they probably had over the school year. I will offer lessons for four levels:

Level 1 (roughly ages 3-5): Your child’s first experience with swim lessons. We will work on blowing bubbles, submerging head in the water, supported front and back floats, kicking, initial front and back strokes, entering the water, basic safety skills etc.

Level 2 (roughly ages 5-7): Your child can do most/all of the skills listed for level 1. We will continue developing front and back strokes with support, working toward independence and introduce side breathing and the breast stroke.

Level 3 (roughly ages 7-9): Your child can do all of the skills in levels 1 and 2. We will focus on developing independence in the water, stroke technique and side breathing. I will also introduce the breast stroke and treading water.

Level 4 (roughly ages 9-12): Your child can do most/all of the skills listed for levels 1, 2, and 3 and can swim 15-25 yards unsupported. We will continue stroke development and enhancement for the front, back, and breast stroke and practice treading water. We will also introduce the butterfly stroke and flip turns.

If there is enough interest I will provide a “parent-child” class offered from 6:00-6:30. Please let me know which session you would be interested in (without a payment) and I will let you know if there is enough demand.

Cost: The first session you sign your child up for will be $30. Each succeeding session will be $25. This price is by child, not by family. I will accept cash or check payments.

Due to increased fees (and the fact that I'm an even poorer college student than I was last summer) I have slightly raised prices from last year. Compared to the Salt lake County and Geri's Swim School you will still be paying less money on average for the amount of instructional time. However, I do not want to exclude anyone because of price, so if this is a concern for you please let me know and we can work something out. I sincerely appreciate your willingness to support my education through your registration fees. I do my best to make every minute of lessons worth the cost.

Registration: I will begin accepting registration Monday, May 7th. Registration may be done in person at 4415 S. 3245 W. (Google Maps Location). If you live too far away or are unable to register in person you may call 801-966-5654 and we can register over the phone. Your payment will be due at the time of registration (unless done over the phone, in which case it will be due at the beginning of the first lesson).

Please register quickly to ensure your child has a spot. I will not take over 5 children in each class to ensure your child has a quality experience and gets as much one-on-one attention as possible.
